Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced a significant decision to auction seized properties of tax defaulters to recover outstanding dues. The corporation has initiated the process of appointing government-registered valuers to assess the properties before auction.
According to an official statement from Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, property owners whose assets are under seizure have been given a final opportunity to clear their dues immediately. Failure to do so will result in their properties being auctioned.
Strict Action Against Defaulters
The Property Tax Department of NMMC is responsible for the assessment and collection of property taxes. Under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, properties with unpaid taxes face seizure, and in extreme cases, they can be auctioned to recover dues. The corporation is now expediting this process to ensure strict enforcement.
To determine the correct valuation of seized properties, NMMC had invited applications from government-registered valuers, receiving interest from 10 qualified professionals. A suitable valuer will soon be appointed, and once the valuation is completed, the auction will proceed swiftly.
Opportunity for Taxpayers Under ‘Abhay’ Scheme
To encourage tax payments, NMMC has launched the ‘Abhay’ scheme, offering a 50% waiver on penalties for defaulters who pay their outstanding dues in full by March 31, 2025. The civic body has urged taxpayers to take advantage of this scheme to avoid property seizures and subsequent auctions.
NMMC’s Warning to Defaulters
With the auction process underway, NMMC has warned property owners to clear their dues at the earliest. The corporation is committed to enforcing tax regulations strictly and ensuring all pending amounts are collected.
