The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has introduced an Amnesty Scheme, offering a 50% waiver on penalties for delayed property tax payments. This initiative is being promoted as a golden opportunity for defaulters to clear their dues with reduced penalties.
The scheme will be available from March 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM, until March 31, 2025, at midnight. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged property owners to take advantage of this limited-time offer and settle their outstanding dues.
Key Highlights of the Amnesty Scheme
- No waiver on the principal amount: Property owners must pay the full outstanding tax; only the penalty on delayed payments is reduced by 50%.
- Full payment required: Partial payments will not be accepted. To qualify, taxpayers must pay the entire outstanding amount (including the reduced penalty) in one single payment.
- Strict legal action for non-payment: Defaulters who fail to pay despite multiple reminders will face legal consequences.
A substantial amount of property tax remains unpaid within NMMC’s jurisdiction. As per the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, the commissioner has the authority to waive penalties to encourage better tax collection. Exercising this power, Dr. Kailas Shinde has implemented the Amnesty Scheme to help defaulters clear their dues with reduced penalties before the deadline.
