NMMC Cracks Down on Illegal Constructions in Airoli, Conducts Demolition Drive

Date:

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) conducted a demolition drive in Airoli on Tuesday, targeting unauthorized constructions that had ignored prior notices issued by the encroachment department.

The action was taken under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, with guidance from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Bhagwat Doiphode. The crackdown focused on illegal structures in Survey Nos. 224, 225, and 395, located in Sector-9, Diva Village, Airoli, which were built without the necessary NMMC approvals.

Previously, NMMC had served notices under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, instructing owners to remove unauthorized constructions. Since these instructions were ignored, the encroachment department proceeded with partial demolitions.

The operation involved a team using a gas cutter, two breakers, and a JCB machine, with ten laborers executing the task. Senior officials, including G Division Airoli’s Assistant Commissioner Ankush Jadhav and Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre, were present. A penalty of ₹25,000 was also collected as part of enforcement measures.

Municipal authorities have warned that anti-encroachment actions will intensify in the coming days to curb illegal construction and uphold urban planning regulations.
