Water cut in Thane districtWater cut in Thane district

THANE: Residents and industries in parts of Thane district will face a full-day water shutdown on Friday, October 16, followed by a 36-hour cut every week starting next Thursday. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is cutting supply because of weak rainfall this year.

The El Niño effect reduced this year’s monsoon rainfall, and it is expected to continue into next year. The state Water Resources Department has therefore issued planning guidelines so that the available water stock lasts until August 31, 2027 and drinking water supply stays secure. Under these guidelines, MIDC has proposed a 10 per cent water cut.

As a result, water supply will be completely shut for 24 hours on Friday, October 16, 2026. Once supply resumes, water may come at low pressure for a few hours.

36-hour cut every week from October 22

From Thursday, October 22, the cut becomes weekly. Supply will be stopped every week from 12 midnight on Thursday to 12 noon on Saturday, a total of 36 hours. The schedule is listed in a notice from MIDC Executive Engineer S.S. Nanaware.

Areas affected

  • Ambernath and Additional Ambernath MIDC
  • Badlapur industrial area
  • Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation limits
  • Some residential settlements in the surrounding area

The cut will affect residents served by municipal corporations, municipal councils, gram panchayats, housing societies and industrial estates that draw water from the MIDC network.

The administration has appealed to citizens to store water in advance as needed, avoid wasting it and use it sparingly. Residents have also been asked to cooperate until normal supply is restored.
