KALYAN: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has ordered the removal of the resident medical officer (RMO) at Shaktidham Maternity Hospital in Kalyan East following the death of a newborn during an emergency Caesarean section on Thursday. KDMC Removes RMO

According to the family, 24-year-old Rutuja Dinesh Patil, who had been undergoing regular check-ups at the civic-run hospital for nearly seven months, was admitted at around 7 am after going into labour.

The family alleged that despite her experiencing severe labour pains and repeated requests for medical attention, she was not attended to promptly. They said they had also requested doctors to perform a C-section if required.

At around 6 pm, the baby’s heartbeat reportedly dropped sharply. Doctors subsequently performed an emergency C-section. However, the newborn was declared dead during the procedure.

KDMC Removes RMO

A preliminary inquiry conducted by the KDMC found that the outsourced RMO allegedly failed to inform the gynaecologist about the baby’s deteriorating condition, resulting in a delay in intervention, according to Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Health) Prasad Borkar.

Following the preliminary findings, the civic body ordered the immediate removal of the RMO and directed a 25% deduction from the contractor’s payment.

The contractor has also been instructed to appoint an MBBS-qualified RMO at the hospital.
