Mumbai: In an extraordinary medical triumph, a 35-year-old man made a near-complete recovery at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, after suffering a cardiac arrest lasting 90 minutes — a scenario that almost always ends in tragedy.
The patient had been undergoing a routine Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) at another facility when he suddenly developed bradycardia followed by cardiac arrest. After 90 minutes of continuous CPR, he was transferred to Wockhardt in a severely unstable state: exsanguinated, hypotensive, coagulopathic, and on multiple vasopressors. On arrival, the team faced a full-blown multisystem crisis — acute kidney injury, liver dysfunction, cardiac failure, and hypoxic brain injury with seizures.

Neurology, under Dr. Pavan Pai, managed the seizures and brain recovery. Cardiology, Nephrology, Hepatology, and Transfusion Medicine worked in sync to stabilize the heart, kidneys, liver, and clotting function. The patient was ventilated, sedated, and closely monitored. Over days, his organs began to recover, and the seizures subsided. Most remarkably, he regained consciousness — alert, oriented, and with no major neurological deficits.
