The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced an 18-hour water supply disruption across large parts of the city starting 10 AM on Friday, July 18, to 4 AM on Saturday, July 19. The shutdown is necessary to carry out essential repair and connection work on the Morbe main water pipeline.
According to NMMC, the operation involves connecting a newly laid pipeline to the existing 1700 mm diameter Morbe pipeline, which supplies drinking water to several nodes of Navi Mumbai. The affected stretch lies along Palm Beach Road in Nerul Sector 46, near the Akshar Building—a section that has reported multiple leakages in recent months.
To curb repeated water losses and disruptions, a new pipeline was laid parallel to the old one, and the upcoming connection work is a crucial step toward stabilising the system.
Areas Affected:
Key areas under NMMC, including Airoli, Belapur, Nerul, Koparkhairane, Turbhe, Sanpada, Ghansoli, and Vashi, along with CIDCO-administered areas like Kharghar and Kamothe, will be affected. Households directly connected to the main pipeline will also experience suspension of water supply on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Supply is expected to resume by Saturday evening, but at low pressure.
Advisory to Citizens:
The NMMC has urged residents to store sufficient water in advance and to use it judiciously during the disruption period. Officials reassured citizens that the repair is a part of a broader plan to ensure a stable and efficient water distribution network in the city.
The civic body added that the project aligns with its ongoing efforts to create gender-inclusive, sustainable, and community-sensitive urban infrastructure.
