Mumbai: Highlighting the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) strides in integrating cutting-edge technology into daily governance, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde emphasized the role of AI-enabled tools like the ‘Daksh App’ in efficiently monitoring civic amenities such as parks and roads.
He was speaking at the Maharashtra Future Tech Summit 2025, held in Mumbai and organized by the Maharashtra Government’s Information Technology Department in collaboration with The Economic Times.
Dr. Shinde presented on the topic “Effective Use of Advanced Technology in Municipal Operations”, showcasing how NMMC has successfully adopted digital tools to improve efficiency, enhance transparency, and boost citizen satisfaction. From artificial intelligence and IoT to drone surveillance and blockchain, NMMC remains at the forefront of municipal innovation in Maharashtra.
He noted that KPI-based feedback systems have made service delivery more responsive and performance-oriented. The integration of AI has brought greater speed and precision to municipal processes.
Dr. Shinde also highlighted the use of advanced technology in Navi Mumbai’s acclaimed cleanliness and solid waste management system. Real-time tracking of geo-tagged waste collection vehicles and barcoded bins—monitored through the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC)—has enhanced accountability and streamlined operations. Similarly, the adoption of the SCADA system has strengthened oversight and management of water supply.
Addressing the growing relevance of data in governance, he stressed that as cities become more data-driven, ensuring data security is a critical challenge. However, responsible use of artificial intelligence offers a transformative opportunity to simplify and improve municipal administration.
The summit was attended by several key dignitaries, including Maharashtra’s IT Minister Ashish Shelar and Principal Secretary Parag Jain Nainutiya. Accompanying Dr. Shinde were NMMC officials—Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Satyawan Ubale, Executive Engineer Pravin Gade, and Assistant Commissioner Prabodhan Mavade.
Representing Navi Mumbai at this prestigious state-level summit was a proud moment for the city, reaffirming its position as a leader in smart, tech-driven urban governance.
